OK, so first you'll want to know what all this "Datamix"
business is about. Well, when I started creating these mixes back in 1988, I didn't want
them to be just by me, but with the appearance of a service, somewhat along the lines of what
razormaid was doing, but full mixes
instead of remixes and re-edits of individual songs. Originally the name of the service
was Datamix, Inc., but I was persuaded to change it to Datamix Productions.
My clientele were essentially just my friends and close associates who were fellow
club-goers (primarily One Step Beyond), and each Datamix cassette release (yes, cassette --
we're talking 1988-1993 here, folks...) ended up being totally unique and a one-off,
becuase I would record the release, listen to it for a while, then give it so an unsuspecting
victim.
With my latest mixes, I decided to resurrect that naming convention (i.e. "Datamix"), but
with the exception that the mixes can be freely downloadable
by multiple listeners, and it is not just a one-time listening experience. I have also changed
the numbering scheme a bit, so that the first number now represents first the year in which
the mix was released, then which release during that year. So, "2006.01" is the first mix
released in 2006 (not to indicate that it was done in January).
I figure it's easy enough to follow.
